About Woodworkers of Green Valley
CLUB ORGANIZATION:
-
Summary of Club Organization: The Woodworkers of Green Valley is a self-supported club, operating under the auspices and directions of Green Valley Recreation, Inc. This well equipped woodshop is open to all members of Green Valley Recreation, at all skill levels. Our modest dues for membership are used to purchase and maintain the equipment, allowing members to work on projects of their own choosing, from constructing a new computer cabinet to making artistic wooden bowls. Woodworkers are required to supply their own wood and only those specialized tools such as lathe turning tools. The club also provides a venue for members to discuss various aspects of wood working with fellow woodworkers.

Tools, Equipment and Supplies:
-
Shop Equipment: The club invested wisely in some of the best industrial-quality equipment available for use in the machine area of the shop. This includes a Master Machinery 8" Jointer, seven "Woodfast" lathes (inc a 20" lathe), one Jet Mini lathe, two 15" and one 16" drill presses, Laguna Resaw Master bandsaw, two Laguna 16" HD Bandsaws, two 10" table saws, SCS Panel saw, Bridgewood 16" planer, Powermatic Chisel Mortiser, Two Router tables, Grizzly 3 HP Shaper, two 6" x 89" horizontal belt sanders, Original Saw Co. Radial Arm Saw, Performax drum sander, three chop saws, a small 8" band saw and two vertical 4" disk/belt sanders. Multiple small machines such as polishers and waxers as well as tool sharpening grinders are available. All large machines are connected via gates to the shop vacuum system.
-
Hand Tools: We stock small and medium hand tools, cordless drivers, drill bits, brad nailers, hand sanders, rulers, jigs, taps/dies, cutters, lathe faceplates and miscellaneous fasteners for members to use. We have a good supply of pipe clamps, squeeze clamps, C-clamps, frames/corner clamps, and vertical clamps. Although there is a limited number of eye and ear protectors in the shop, members usually provide their own personal protective devices. Scattered throughout the workshop you'll find Shop-Vac's, brooms, and dust pans so that you can "Clean As You Go".
-
Supplies: The club provides wood glue as well as assorted butcher paper and masking tape to protect/cover the work tables. However, members must provide their own consumables such as pens, pencils, sandpaper/discs, epoxy, wood fillers, in-lays, diluents, stains, and finish products. The shop has a limited quantity of some supplies for sale such as, double-sided tape, clear epoxy, hook and loop sandpaper disks, Safety Glasses, etc.
-
-
Locker and Drawer Availability: There is a large number of drawers and wall lockers at the woodshop for club members to rent on a calendar year basis for storing small amounts of personal tools, items, and other material. There is a waiting list sign-up sheet for each located in the cabinet next to the sign-in computer. Ask the Safety Monitor for access to these sheets. Locker and Drawer Assignment lists are posted near the sign-in computer. You may check these lists for "vacancies". If a vacancy exists, go to that locker or drawer and fill out the rental agreement which can be found inside that locker/drawer and turn it in with the annual rent payment. Safety Monitors have first preference for drawers and wall lockers.
-
Worktables: The "work" area of the shop contains large worktables for project design, setup and layout. Over each worktable you'll find either a drop cord for 110 AC power or compressed air access. During the Summer of 2006, the Club purchased and installed new, reversible countertops on all of the project worktables. To preserve the tabletops as long as possible, members are expected to tape down some "butcher" paper (50lb brown or white) underneath their project "footprint". The intent of the butcher paper is for members to write, draw, doodle as well as glue on the paper, no glue on the tabletops themselves.
